Transfer window, fixture release day – key dates in Leicester City's 24-25 Premier League season

Leicester City will shortly begin preparing for their Premier League return. It's now been a fortnight since they lifted the Championship title, and while Enzo Maresca and his staff are currently on holiday, it won't be long before they return to Seagrave and start planning for the new campaign.

It will help with that preparation to get some dates down in the diary. And thankfully, it's now been revealed when the summer transfer window opens and closes, and when the Premier League will kick off. Here's the rundown of those key dates.

Transfer window

The Premier League have now confirmed the dates for the next two transfer windows, for both this summer and for in the winter. Both could be significant for City as they look to build a squad capable of staying in the division.

The upcoming summer window will open on Friday, June 14 and will close on Friday, August 30 at 11pm. The January window will open on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, shutting on Monday, February 3 at 11pm.

And City don't have to worry about their players being poached without the possibility of signing a replacement, as all of the major leagues have agreed to close their windows on the same days. The Premier League said: “To ensure harmonisation with the major leagues in Europe, the closing dates were set following discussions with the EFL, DFL, Serie A, La Liga, and LFP, who will all close their summer and winter windows on 30 August and 3 February respectively.”

Fixture release day

Being back in the top flight means fixture release day will be a big one for City fans this year. They will be keen to know when Maresca's men face the division's heavyweights, their Midlands rivals, and their fellow promoted clubs.

The Premier League fixtures for the 2024-25 season will be released at 9am on Tuesday, June 18. Dates for all 380 top-flight matches will be released at that time.

Season dates

The 2024-25 Premier League campaign will start on August 17, so City still have three months to wait. Next term will conclude on May 25, 2025, when all matches will kick off simultaneously.

Next season will consist of 33 weekends, four midweek rounds of matches and one Bank Holiday matchweek. Unlike in the winter just gone, there will be no mid-season break this time around, with the focus on allowing players a longer break after the European Championships this summer.

The Premier League have said: “The mid-season break has been removed from the calendar to allow a mid-August start date for the Premier League. This longer summer break allows all Premier League clubs to be better able to ensure that players get a consecutive three-week break in the summer. This takes into account expert advice from medical and technical departments, which values a longer period of complete rest in the summer rather than a short break in the winter.

“In keeping with previous commitments made to clubs to address the congested schedule across Christmas and New Year, arrangements will be made to allow more rest time over three of the festive match rounds, with no club playing within 60 hours of another match. There will be no fixture on 24 December 2024.”
