Transformers 6 release date cancelled by Paramount leaving fate of franchise unknown

The seventh Transformers film has been removed from Paramount's release state.

Originally scheduled to be released in June 2019, the sequel was set to follow Transformers: The Last Knight which scored the franchise its lowest global box office performance since beginning in 2007 ($605m from a budget of $217m).

Spin-off Bumblebee, based on the robot character of the same name, will be released this December.

The third Transformers film, 2011's Dark of the Moon, gave the franchise its peak with a staggering $1.12 billion. However, while leading all studios to gross a domestic $1.95 billion that same year, Paramount saw a drastic drop in revenue earning $534m domestically in the past year.

Paramount's new CEO Jim Gianopulos, who replaced Grey who passed away last May, promised that Bumblebee will be “a more character-driven” Transformers film. Directed by Travis Knight (the man behind Laika's Coraline and Kubo and the Two Strings), the prequel will chart how the Autobot first encountered humans on Earth

Elton John biopic Rocket Man, starring Taron Egerton, will replace the untitled Transformers film as Paramount's big summer 2019 release with Tiffany Haddish comedy Limited Partners announced to be released on the same date the Michael Bay-produced film would have been.
