'Travel Nearly Impossible' as Blizzard Grips Western Alaska

Bitter wind gusts and snow hit parts of western Alaska on Saturday, March 4, as a weekend-long blizzard warning was in effect for the region.

The National Weather Service warned that power outages were likely due to blowing snow and ice, and said travel could be “nearly impossible.”

This footage was provided by Jimmy Evak, who said he shot it in Kotzebue, a city north of the Seward Peninsula that had a population of just over 3,100 as of the 2020 census.

“I’m sure over 90 percent are inside,” Evak told Storyful. Credit: Jimmy Evak via Storyful
