Travellers who took up residence in Hereford’s disused Three Counties Hotel at the start of this week appear to been evicted.

It is understood that while police attended the hotel, off the city’s A465 Belmont Road, an eviction was served against the travellers not by police but by bailiffs.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said also: “We are investigating theft from the building, but we are yet to establish when this occurred and who the suspect is.”

Herefordshire Council confirmed that it had not been involved in the case.

The current location of the travellers, who between them appeared to have eight caravans, is not known.

The hotel is earmarked for demolition and replacement by a new Lidl discount supermarket. It is currently boarded off from the road, apparently as a security measure.
