A tree fell on Lorraine Kelly's showbiz guru Dan Wootton during a live interview today (May 26).

Making the most of the UK's mini heat wave, the breakfast show was conducted just outside of the ITV studios.

But when a preview was aired of Brad Pitt's new movie War Machine, disaster struck and Dan could be heard screaming out of shot.

When the cameras turned to focus on the presenters again, the poor host could be seen sitting with branches covering his face as Lorraine tried to help lift them off.

"You've been attacked," she laughed as they together tried to stand the tree upright – moments before it fell over for a second time.

"Are you alright?" she asked before bursting into laughter.

Clearly finding the whole thing very amusing, Dan also burst into giggles as he brushed off the setback.

"I'm fine, absolutely fine," he said. "I'm fanning myself [with the branches]. I'm holding [the tree] up to protect you. Yeah, I think I'm just going to keep hold of this thing now!"

Luckily nobody was hurt, although, Dan decided to take the tree with him when his segment was over to make sure it didn't fall on anyone else.

He later laughed off the incident in a tweet, writing: "That tree really didn't like me."

"I think it DID like you," Lorraine Kelly tweeted back. "That was the problem!!"

Other guests on today's show included chart-topper Elkie Brooks, who was promoting her new album Peals: The Very Best Of.

Radio 1 DJ Greg James, who recently co-hosted his chart show with Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge, also appeared on the programme.

Opening up about how he managed to convince the young royals to work with him, the star said: "They came in to talk about their mental health charity, Heads Together. They originally came in to surprise Adele Roberts, who was running the London Marathon for their charity – they were the special guest for her.

"They were there for such along time, I said to them 'Do you want to present the charts with me?' And they were really up for it. William really was because he listens to Radio 1. Both princes did growing up actually – like a lot of people do. He wanted to do the countdown and he did a brilliant job!"

Lorraine airs on ITV weekdays at 8.25am.
