Will Trent Cast Promises a ‘Polarizing’ Season 2 Finale: There Will Be Shock, Despair… and Maybe Some Elation?

When Will Trent leading man Ramón Rodríguez visited TVLine’s New York City offices late last month, he warned that Season 2 would end on “a bit” of a cliffhanger: “There are some things that [Will] gains, which is great, and there are some things that he loses, which is not great.”

Suffice it to say, our curiosity was piqued when we caught up with his costars at ABC’s Upfront earlier this week. We asked each of them how viewers would feel when they reach the climax of Tuesday’s finale — aka the last new episode until 2025 — and with each passing answer, we were more intrigued.

Jake McLaughlin, who embodies Detective Michael Ormewood, told us that audiences will be left “wanting more,” while Iantha Richardson, who plays Special Agent Trent’s partner-in-crime solving Faith Mitchell, cautioned that viewers will be “feeling sadness, they’ll be feeling empathy, they’ll be feeling nostalgia.”

Then came Angie Polaski herself, Erika Christensen, who suggested that there would be both “shock” and “despair.” She then turned around and said this: “I know some fans might actually be feeling vindication or elation. I think it’s going to be a pretty polarizing episode.”

What else did the above-mentioned trio, along with fellow co-star Sonja Sohn (who plays GBI Deputy Director Amanda Wagner), dish to TVLine about Will Trent’s Season 2 finale? Keep scrolling to find out….

ANGIE’S ROAD TO RECOVERY… AND RELAPSE? | Officer Polaski took a nasty fall in Episode 9 but she didn’t resort to painkillers. “She’s been doing really well with her sobriety for a while, and I think it has shown to be so productive,” Christensen tells TVLine. Additionally, Will and Angie’s relationship is finally “going right and settling into this calm, sort of grown-up space. Certainly she wouldn’t want to mess that up. Something else might do that for her.”

LOVE CONNECTIONS… AND DISCONNECTIONS? | Faith’s S.O. Luke (played by recurring guest star will resurface in the finale and “you will see him be a great boyfriend,” Richardson emphasizes. “He will be needed, and you know Faith doesn’t normally need people, so it’ll be a big deal.”

Viewers will also receive an update on Ormewood’s wife Gina, who left her family and checked herself into a wellness center early in Season 2. “I think you’ll find out a little bit what’s going on with the ol’ wifey-poo,” McLaughlin teases. Asked if what we learn will surprise us, McLaughlin plays coy: “Yes,” he answers. “But I can’t tell you why.”

AN UNEXPECTED PROPOSITION | We know heading into the episode that Amanda has an “unexpected proposition” for Angie. But what does mean, exactly? “Let’s just say Amanda will start to see, at the end of Season 2, Angie’s effort to make a shift in her life… and also on the job,” Sohn teases. “She’s consistent for once.” Adds Christensen: “Angie is learning to view herself in a more positive light. When that’s reflected from an exterior viewpoint, that’s really helpful.” —With reporting by Matt Webb Mitovich

Will Trent’s Season 2 finale airs Tuesday, May 21 at 8/7c (and streams next day on Hulu). Season 3, which will consist of 18 uninterrupted episodes, will follow in 2025.
