Tributes have been paid to a beloved grandad who sadly died in a Dubai hospital. Announcing the passing of a loved one in local news media is a long standing tradition and we are proud of the trust placed in us to make these important announcements.

Every notice published to our newspaper and news site also appears on funeral-notices.co.uk - the UK’s number one site for death notices and memoriams. Every notice remains online forever providing friends and families with a lifelong tribute to their loved one, a safe place online to share memories, add tributes, photographs and make donations in memory.

Each week we pay tribute to the loved ones remembered in our area with a funeral notice and online tribute page. Brian CHEW

Saturday 25th May 2024 formerly of Mayfield Drive, Armadale, West Lothian, with his much beloved wife Guljan holding his hand at his side in Dubai hospital. He also leaves behind Guljan's mum and her family, his daughter Melanie and husband Joe, niece Emily and nephew Oscar. His son Damion, and wife Kasha and daughter Eden. Also, his sister Ethel in Edinburgh, her daughter Amanda and her son in law Gordon, his sister Margaret in Colchester, her husband Brian, their son Paul and wife Clare, also their daughter Ali, her husband Ged, their sons Alexander and Robbie and daughter Gabriella. Brian also had many cousins, colleagues and friends, locally and abroad. He was a good, kind, son, brother, husband, dad and grandad, a friend to many. Brian was born in Armadale to parents Peggy and Eric Chew. After leaving St Anthony's RC school in Armadale, he attended St Mary's Academy Bathgate, leaving to complete an apprenticeship with Dickson and Mann in Armadale. He worked part time in Boni's cafe in Bathgate in 1969 to help while training, thereafter he became a highly sought after, well respected engineer whose services were held in very high esteem by the companies he worked for in the UK, Zambia, Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Despite suffering ill health for several years, he defied such issues to travel, garden, cook - (one of his specialities was Aunty Peggy's clootie dumpling) and generally enjoy himself. He attended football whenever and wherever he could, to support his beloved Celtic team. He will be very sorely missed by his siblings, wider family and friends but especially by Guljan, who encouraged him to enjoy life and without whose constant love, devotion and care he would not have been able to sustain the strength of will to live as long as he did and for this we, his family, owe her a huge debt of gratitude. The hospital staff in Dubai Hospital tried so very hard to save his life and deserve our gratitude also.
