Tributes have flooded in for a much loved Edinburgh football supporter after the sad news of his passing.

Jimmy Wightman, also known as Jimmy 'the postie', tragically passed away leaving many locals gutted. Popular within the Drylaw and Muirhouse areas of the capital, he spent his life attending football games across Edinburgh.

He was an avid supporter of the Civil Service Strollers FC and would attend around a dozen of their games a season. Paying tribute to Jimmy, the Strollers manager, Gary, said he was a "lovely man" who will be missed by many.

He added: "We knew Jimmy for years because he stayed in the community and used to come down and watch the games. He was a big supporter of football in general in the north of Edinburgh and beyond.

"He never had social media or a mobile phone so he would walk a mile or two to see if there was a game on. He was well known as well through being the local postie for many years in Drylaw and Muirhouse.

"He was such a lovely man and would go and watch games all over. It's such a sad loss for the community and he will be missed by so many people".

The football club also posted a tribute on X, formally known as Twitter, and said: "Everyone at the Strollers is extremely sad to have learned of the death of Jimmy Wightman.

"Jimmy 'the postie' was well kent around Drylaw, North Edinburgh and East of Scotland football in general. RIP Biff".

Many were quick to offer their condolences over the sad loss of Jimmy. One person wrote on X: "Sad to hear, saw Jimmy a lot and used to say hello whenever I saw him."

Another said: "He was a legend, top bloke and will be sadly missed." Another person simply wrote: "Sorry to hear this, Jimmy was always a good guy to talk to".
