We've not always had the sunniest weather of late, but most people have probably had a small window to fire up the barbecue by now.

And with National BBQ Week running until last weekend, it was an ideal opportunity to try out some of the new summer food range at Aldi.

There are all kinds of new products in the chilled section, from flavoured chicken and Greek style kebabs, to 'Specially Selected' Wagyu quarter pounders, known for their tenderness and rich flavour.

At £4.49 for a four-pack, those were a big hit, as were the piri piri, sticky BBQ and mango and coconut flavoured chicken sizzlers, which start from a very reasonable £2.99 for a 350g pack and were delicious grilled and then sliced up with salad.

You don't really need a barbecue to cook any of the dishes really, it's just billed as a range that's 'perfect for eating alfresco'.

The kids loved the Honey & Chilli Pork Sausages, another of Aldi's Specially Selected products, but the biggest hit among the grown ups were the Halloumi and Chilli Kebabs.

You get four in a pack, costing £3.49, and while I've described it as a sharer, you'd definitely want more than one, possibly more if you're a veggie and avoiding the meat altogether.

With roasted red pepper, garlic, chilli flakes, lemon juice and more, they're full of flavour and they're only one out of three chillis on the heat-o'meter, so they're relatively mild.

Aldi's Emporium Grill and Ashfields Grill products are available in stores now.
