Whether it's axe throwing, digital darts or pottery painting - it seems there's a hot new craze launching in Edinburgh constantly.

The latest comes from Splatter Art Studio, who launched in Leith after opening in Glasgow last year. Here, you can unleash the artist inside you - and release any rage - as you find your inner Jackson Pollock.

The studio gives visitors paint, a canvas and the tools to create an abstract painting with splats, flicks, shots and throws of colour. We knew we had to head down for the experience - find out how we got on below.

From the moment I walked in the doors at Splatter, the staff were incredibly warm and welcoming - and with a tendency to be "artistically challenged" I was glad of that. Co-founders Klaudyna Berbec and Euan Hair guided me through the process, and I was keen to get stuck in.

The team at Splatter have some pieces that have been created before, to show you various options and give you some ideas. After squeezing into the poncho, shoe covers and goggles, I was good to go.

I explained to Klaudyna what I wanted to create, picked a pre-made piece that I wanted to emulate and we got started. She guided me through how to create the look I was going for, and how to use the tools.

There's a paint gun, used for the classic splats. There's also a huge variety of brushes, as well the option to simply spray paint straight out the bottle.

Splatter also have a range of tools to create textured effects, and the staff are on hand to help out throughout the process. When I was starting my masterpiece, Klaudyna did warn me that sometimes less is more - and that it should become clear when it's time to stop.

I clearly didn't take this in, and made a late stage addition which we all agreed wasn't working. The team helped me sort it out and gave me advice on how to fix it - so don't be afraid to make mistakes.

After we fixed up the painting, it was time to box it up. This was one of the best parts, when I discovered the takeaway pizza box I'd be transporting the canvas in.

Splatter are in on the joke, and have written "art not pizza" on the side of their boxes - just in case there was any confusion. I left after two hours of enthusiastic painting feeling like I'd spent the afternoon in therapy, and would highly recommend a trip to Splatter if you fancy leaving your emotions on the canvas - and the wall, and the roof.
