But what if we told you that you can still enjoy a luxurious Spa weekend and you can even take your furry friend along for the ride - who will also be treated to the good life, including a little doggy welcome pack!

Set in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, the Hotel & Spa boasts 1,335 excellent reviews on Trip Advisor as returning customers praise the "quintessentially British" hotel that "oozes quality."

So naturally, we made our way to the "notably picturesque setting" to see what all the fuss was about.

During our visit, we got to relax enjoying their spa facilities, with accompanying treatment, as well as culinary delights and nearby walking trials.

The setting is simply stunning from the moment you pull up in the car park with Bolton Abbey just visible in the distance. We received a very warm welcome from the friendly staff members who showed us around the facilities before directing us to our room.

Our room was amazing with a huge four poster bed and traditional decor, the whole place feels very regal and almost like something out of Downton Abbey - even dogs get a four poster bed!

The room boasts beautiful views over the gardens and surrounding hills, which were incredible to wake up to. The room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable allowing for a really good nights sleep.

Following making ourselves at home in our room we headed down to the cocktail lounge for an early evening beverage. The bar is really lovely and cosy with a huge roaring fire for the cooler months, oozing country house elegance.

We did find the drinks menu slightly on the pricey side, however, the cocktails were really good, strong without being overpowering and really tasty ... so we didn't mind!

After this we got ourselves ready for the evening before making our way to the Brasserie for our evening meal, we shared a baked camembert starter, which unfortunately was a little undercooked initially, but the friendly staff soon rectified the minor issue and it was soon piping hot and oozing.

After this we went on to share the venison wellington, which was accompanied by dauphinoise potatoes and tenderstem broccoli, we both agreed this was one of the nicest meals we had ever had (and we do like our food!)

The wellington was cooked to perfection, succulent and pink in the middle surrounded by a flaky and buttery pastry, the accompaniments were just as good.

The knowledgeable staff recommended a red wine to enjoy alongside our meal which was equally as enjoyable and served at the perfect room temperature.

The Brasserie has a really lovely atmosphere and was filled with families of all shapes and sizes chatting, socialising and enjoying the delicious locally sourced food.

There is a terrace out the back with amazing views of the Dales on a clear day, unfortunately the weather wasn't great during our visit so we were unable to sit out but I can imagine it's stunning on a nice day.

After a great nights sleep we headed down to The Burlington restaurant for breakfast, the setting is really lovely in a large orangery overlooking the grounds gardens.

We enjoyed some home-grown fruit with yoghurt and homemade granola to start followed by a Yorkshire breakfast to set us up for the day, it is clear to see each and every ingredient is carefully considered, the breakfast was delicious and the overall dining experience, once again, was relaxing and enjoyable.

After this we headed over to The Devonshire Spa to enjoy the facilities, although staying within the tranquil, natural beauty of The Yorkshire Dales is therapy enough!

The spa is housed in an ancient barn, adjacent to The Devonshire Arms Hotel and the setting is just perfect as you head over the stream to the grand entrance.

The small but stunning spa boasts a state–of-the-art vitality pool, sauna, steam room, rasul chamber and lounge, as well as offering a range of Temple Spa treatments for guests to enjoy.

The spa feels much more intimate than some of the larger spa's I've been to previously, the converted barn makes for the most idyllic setting with gorgeous exposed brick walls, high ceilings and original wood beams.

All hotel guests receive 60 minute complimentary access to the spa facilities and although you certainly could stay there all day, it's more than enough time to enjoy what is on offer.

We enjoyed the rasul chamber before the spa pool, steam room and sauna before we finished our trip with a walk up to Bolton Abbey and a spot of lunch in the nearby cafe.

The beautiful Bolton Abbey overlooks the banks of the River Wharfe and is surrounded by 30,000 acres of scenic countryside - it's safe to we lost a few hours!

The location of the hotel is perfect for walkers, especially those with dogs as there are many off-road routes to enjoy.

Following our walk we headed back to the hotel to say goodbyes, reluctantly leaving the tranquil Yorkshire Dales setting and returning to reality.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at Devonshire Arms, the staff were lovely and so accommodating, the food was incredible, the setting and atmosphere is faultless and the spa was a real treat. We already can't wait to go back!
