We tried all the new McDonald's menu items including Chicken Big Mac and £2.99 Biscoff Frappe - one was sloppy and another was perfect

We all know how McDonald's likes to mix things up a bit. Just when you find a favourite item, it gets taken off the menu and replaced with something new.

That's exactly what's happened this week, with seven new items added to the menu - some old favourites and some completely new products.

Among them are the Biscoff McFlurry, which went down a treat when it was launched last June and comes as standard size for £1.99, or £1.59 for a mini. But there's another Biscoff product that's causing quite a stir and that's the Biscoff Frappe.

There's also a Galaxy Chocolate McFlurry and the Galaxy Caramel Pie, which was first seen last December.

The Chicken Big Mac, which originally launched in Australia, is back for a fourth run, there's a Quarter Pounder Deluxe (single or double) and finally, the new Cheese and Herb melts, which come in a pack of five or a larger share box.

We decided to take one for the team and give all seven products a try as they launched in restaurants on April 17.

I knew the Chicken Big Mac was going to be a hit. If you like their McChicken Sandwich and you like the sauce on the Big Mac, there's nothing not to love.

The Quarter Pounder Deluxe isn't that different to the classic Quarter Pounder, just a bit fancier with lettuce, mayonnaise and tomato, adding some extra layers to what is a pretty decent burger.

My son loves all things cheese and devoured the new Cheese and Herb melts in no time - bitesize mini balls of mozzarella and Emmental cheese in a tasty herb coating.

I have to admit we found the Galaxy products a little underwhelming. Having heard great things about the Galaxy Caramel Pie - 'orgasmic' some said - I was expecting big things. But the sloppy centre inside the overly crispy shell of the pie wasn't exactly a hit and we didn't get any of that much-loved Galaxy flavouring from it at all.

The fact we all had eyes on the Biscoff probably didn't help and it's no surprise McDonald's has decided to jump on a flavour that's soared in popularity over recent years.

The McFlurry features a Biscoff crumb swirled onto the ice cream giving it that extra crunchy flavour and is topped with caramel sauce. It's as good as it sounds. Some Biscoff sauce would have been nice, but you can't have it all.

The newest creation, the £2.99 frappe, has a vanilla flavour base, blended with ice and Biscoff crumb. It's topped with caramel flavoured cream and more Biscoff crumb.

As huge fans of Biscoff milkshakes, the flavour isn't quite as strong as you get from an ice cream based drink, but, with those little lumps of ice, it's undoubtedly more refreshing and will make a perfect chilled treat during the warmer months.

We've just got to hope it stays around long enough for the sun to come out.
