We tried Turtle Bay's new Jerk Platter and felt like we'd been transported from Lincoln to the Caribbean

If you love the taste of the Caribbean but aren't planning a trip there anytime soon, then look no further than Turtle Bay. We were invited to the Lincoln restaurant to try out the Jerk Platter which is a new addition to the menu this summer.

Having been to Turtle Bay a couple of times before and had mixed experiences, I really wasn't sure what to expect. The only slightly underwhelming meal I've had was their attempt at a Caribbean roast dinner, which had some tasty parts and some not so tasty.

However, the Jerk Platter I was about to sample wasn't trying to be anything else, just pure Caribbean food and flavours. The platter is essentially a big tray of meat and coleslaw with some chips and rice on the side. It included half jerk chicken, half rack of BBQ ribs, jerk sausage, coconut rice, spiced fries and slaw.

The Jerk Platter is one of the pricier items on the menu at £31. We also opted for a side of mac and cheese which was an extra £4.40. Everything on the platter, from the BBQ ribs down to the coconut rice, tasted amazing. Jerk chicken can often be on the drier side, but this meat was succulent and seasoned to perfection.

It didn't take long for me to polish off most of the platter with some help from my partner. The only warning I would give is that the spice levels are pretty high on this one, so it may be a struggle for those who aren't so keen on the heat. However, the huge array of cocktails on the menu are great for cooling down.

With some room left after the main we shared a banana and toffee cheesecake which was light and refreshing, a perfect way to finish after some intense Caribbean spice. If you're out at Turtle Bay with a partner or a friend and can't decide what to have, the Jerk Platter is well worth a go.
