Tropical Storm Arlene off Florida Coast Becomes Year's First Named Atlantic Storm
Tropical storm Arlene, forming over the Gulf of Mexico, has become the first named Atlantic storm system of the year, the Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA) and National Hurricane Center (NHC) said on Friday, June 2.
Satellite footage shows Arlene spinning over the Gulf of Mexico, off Florida’s western coast.
Arlene posed “no significant threat to land,” the NHC said. However, heavy rain was expected through Saturday in parts of the Florida peninsula. Credit: CIRA via Storyful
