Trucker Trapped in Kenyan River Rescued by Wildlife Conservation Helicopter Crew
A driver trapped amid rising waters along the Galana River in Kenya was rescued by a wildlife conservation group’s helicopter crew on May 3.
Footage provided by Sheldrick Wildlife Trust shows a helicopter, piloted by Taru Carr-Hartley, carefully being lowered to an overturned vehicle surrounded by surging waters. Roan Carr-Hartley is then seen grabbing ahold of the trapped man, helping him onboard.
The wildlife nonprofit said that the “tanker had been driving across the Galana-Kulalu causeway when the river suddenly flooded and surrounded it.”
“The moment we received the call, our Aerial Unit sprang into action,” Sheldrick Wildlife Trust said, adding that the man had been stuck for over six hours.
The Kenya National Highways Authority recently closed another road due to the ongoing rain, cautioning “everyone to be vigilant while using the roads, especially during this rainy season.”
Back in December, local news reported that Roan Carr-Hartley was presented with a goat after he helped rescue a four-year-old boy who went missing near Tsavo East National Park.
“Today, our Aerial Unit saved a life,” Sheldrick Wildlife Trust said. “Who knows what tomorrow will bring!”
