Trucker trapped as toppled lorry shuts off key road
A trucker was left trapped when a lorry ended up on its side shutting a key Cheshire road. Emergency services were scrambled to Runcorn's Rocksavage Expressway where the stricken truck had toppled.
And Monday afternoon's incident left the road, a key route for M56 motorists, closed. Police, firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene at around 4.10pm.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service say one engine from Runcorn was sent to the collision. A spokesperson said: "An articulated heavy goods vehicle turned on its side leaving the driver trapped.
"The driver was eventually able to self-extricate and was assessed by firefighters using a trauma pack. An ambulance was called to the scene and police closed the Weston Point Expressway from the M56 towards the Mersey Gateway."
Cheshire Police say the road had to be shut off to allow for recovery - while it is not believed the trucker suffered any serious injuries. A spokeswoman for the force said: "Police were called to reports of a collision on Rocksavage Expressway, Runcorn.
"The incident involved a lorry which had landed on its side. The driver is believed to have suffered minor injuries.
"The road was closed for recovery of the lorry and due to diesel on the road."
