Trying season four will arrive on screens this summer, with Apple TV+ confirming the official release date alongside two first-look photos.

Rafe Spall and Esther Smith are seen reprising their roles as Jason and Nikki in new pictures from the upcoming season, which takes place six years on from the events of season three.

The first two episodes will drop on the streaming service on May 22, with a new episode following weekly on Wednesdays, up until July 3.

"In this exciting new season, we fast-forward six years to discover that Nikki (Smith) and Jason (Spall) are experienced adopters who have built a lovely little nuclear family, enriched by an extraordinary support network," reads the synopsis.

"However, as their teenage daughter, Princess (Scarlett Rayner), starts to yearn for a connection with her birth mother, Nikki and Jason find themselves confronted with the ultimate test of their parenting skills."

Blue Lights and House of the Dragon star Sian Brooke will return as Nikki's sister Karen, with The Outlaws actor Darren Boyd back as her husband Scott.

The series also introduces newcomers Scarlett Rayner and Cooper Turner as the older Princess and Tyler, replacing season 2 and 3 stars Eden Togwell and Mickey McAnulty.

Turner can be seen as Tyler in one of the first-look photos, sat alongside Spall in a grand sitting room.

Meanwhile, Princess, now played by Rayner, is seen sandwiched between Spall and Smith in a second still, with paint marks over her clothing.

Smith shared her excitement at the fourth season hitting screens soon in an Instagram post. "Trying series 4!! Yeeeeees!!! 🥳 back on @appletv May 22nd," read the caption.

"Nikki and Jason navigate the world of parenting teenagers… can’t wait for you all to see it!"

Trying seasons 1-3 are available now on Apple TV+.
