Tube Passengers Smash Windows as Smoke Fills London Underground Train

Passengers on a London Underground train smashed through windows and pried closed doors open to escape cars filled with smoke at Clapham Common station on Friday evening, May 5, according to people at the scene.

Transport for London (TfL) confirmed that “a fire alert” at the station was causing severe delays on the Northern line.

This dramatic footage from local resident Jake Sharp shows chaotic scenes as people on the platform smash train windows and pull open train doors, allowing passengers to escape.

Sharp told Storyful that “the doors did not or would not open” despite smoke in the cars, and said “workmen on the platform” used their “hammers and other tools to smash all the windows for everyone to get out.”
