Turkey gifts Mexico puppy after search dog dies in earthquake

Turkey has given the Mexico a puppy following the death of Proteo, a Mexican search dog who assisted in finding survivors of February's deadly earthquake.

The 3-month-old German Shepherd named Arkadas - "friend" in Turkish - will join the Mexican army's canine unit, where he will be trained for search and rescue missions.

Turkish officials said they hoped Arkadas would "carry on the legacy" of Proteo, who was honoured in a ceremony in Mexico after his remains were flown home.
