Turning people into cyborg Gods will be the next billion-dollar technology industry

What is going to come next, after the smartphone revolution peaks and everyone on the planet is walking around with one?

Don’t expect the next revolution to come in the form of a gadget you carry – or even wear.

The next billion-dollar technology industry could happen inside people’s bodies – as people use tech such as robotics to ‘upgrade’ themselves into something more like living Gods, an author has claimed.

Yuval Noah Harari previously had a bestseller with Sapiens – a history of the human race – but his new book, Homo Deus, looks into the future.

Many futurists believe that tiny robots which ‘live inside’ people could offer a way for people to ‘upgrade’ their own bodies.

Others think that an event called the ‘Singularity’ is coming – where machines become more intelligent than humans, and man merges with machine.

Yuval Noah Harari says, ‘‘When we think about the future we generally think about a world in which people who are identical to us in every important way enjoy better technology: laser guns, intelligent robots, and spaceships that travel at the speed of light.

‘Yet the revolutionary potential of future technologies is to change Homo sapiens itself, including our bodies and our minds, and not merely our vehicles and weapons.’

‘The most amazing thing about the future won’t be the spaceships, but the beings flying them.’
