The 5 best shows on TV tonight: Tuesday 20 April

It's a make-up heavy evening on the TV tonight as BBC Two airs a documentary on the history of getting glammed-up while the third season of Glow Up starts too.

Elsewhere, Shreddies are getting the Snackmasters treatment although unfortunately, they aren't really knitted by nanas.

The Syndicate returns for a fourth episode too, and there's a moving drama on BBC Four.

Makeup: A Glamorous History - 9pm - BBC Two

Professional make-up artist Lisa Eldridge takes us on a journey back to Georgian Britain where we learn just what made them tick when it came to appearances.

Eldridge learns about one of the icons of the days, a Duchess who employed a full time hairdresser and whom she paid the equivalent of £100,000 a year, plus expenses.

She also whips up some of the era's infamous toxic white face paint and marvels at the homemade recipes the Georgians used to perfect their look.

The Syndicate - 9pm - BBC One

Kay Mellor's lottery drama has veered into somewhat silly territory in its fourth season but it still remains an easy watch.

There's more woe for the syndicate when they discover Roxy's (Taj Atwal) emergency medical treatment comes at a high price.

Meanwhile, Neil Morrissey's Frank could find himself in trouble when he is confronted by an official.

Snackmasters: Shreddies - 9pm - Channel 4

It's Shreddies turn in the spotlight this week as Fred Sirieix challenges top chefs Daniel Clifford and Claude Bosi to recreate a bowl of the breakfast favourite.

They are given three weeks to work out how the intricately latticed cereal all comes together in the factory before the judges make their decision.

Glow Up: Britain's Next Make Up Star - 10.45pm - BBC One

The BBC Three competition gets into its third series tonight as Maya Jada welcomes 10 new make-up artists.

The hopefuls face are challenge to produce an eye-catching look as part of a beauty campaign for Superdrug, with one competitor's work being picked to be displayed in over 800 stores.

The avoid being put in the Face Off elimination they must impress in the Creative Brief with a look that tells a story.

Lights Up: Adam - 11pm - BBC Four

This play reworked for the screen, based on the true story of Adam Kashmiry, centres a trans man and his journey to being truly himself.

Born in Egypt, he moves to Glasgow but struggles as he can't prove his need for asylum until he transitions but is unable to start transitioning until he is granted asylum

The hour-long drama is focused on Adam's isolating experiences while he waits a decision on the asylum claim, left alone with his conflicting thoughts.
