Two horses which charged through central London on Wednesday are in a 'serious condition'. The small group of horses were spooked by construction work in Belgravia, after building materials were dropped from a height, according to the British Army.

The animals caused shock to Londoners as they galloped near Tower Bridge and Limehouse Tunnel, with one covered in 'blood'. An Army spokesperson said: “A number of military working horses became loose during routine exercises.

"All of the horses were recovered and returned to barracks. A number of personnel and horses have been injured and are receiving the appropriate medical attention.”

Of the seven horses which were spooked four broke loose - Vida (the grey horse seen in footage), Trojan (seen running with Vida in footage, Quaker and Tennyson.

Two of the injured horses were operated on last night with one transferred to an equine hospital. All remaining horses spent the night under observation and will be assessed throughout the day.

"There were five horses. They have all been recovered," Defence minister James Cartlidge told Sky News this morning (Thursday, April 25). He added: "Three of them are fine, two of them are unfortunately in a relatively serious condition and obviously we will be monitoring that condition.

"They are in a serious condition, but as I understand, still alive." Three soldiers were chucked off their horses and taken to hospital for treatment.

Two remained in hospital overnight where their conditions are described as stable, and one has been discharged. They are all expected to fully recover and return to duty.

The London Ambulance Service treated patients with horse-related injuries in three different London locations: Buckingham Palace Road, Belgrave Square, and the junction between Chancery Lane and Fleet Street. All three incidents took place within ten minutes, between 8.25am and 8.35am.

Vehicles were also damaged as the Household Cavalry galloped into them, with one colliding with a bus and the windows of a taxi being shattered. After 'dramatic' videos circulating of the horses in the capital Westminster Police confirmed all the horses had been contained.

They said: "We're pleased to confirm that all of the horses have been accounted for. We are continuing to liaise with the Army."

The rampage shocked many with one onlooker saying: ""They just ran past me at cannon st chased by a police car so awful and surreal." Another added: "Those poor horses. What on earth has happened to them? Hope they and everyone around them are safe."
