Two men have been arrested in Austria in connection with the chilling 'public execution' of a DPD worker. Aurman Singh was part of a two-man crew working in Shrewsbury when he was ambushed and hacked to death with an arsenal of weapons.

A total of five men were locked up for more than 100 years in connection with his killing earlier this year. Now, police have confirmed a further two men have been detained in connection with the 23-year-old's death.

Two men - aged 23 and 25 - were arrested in Austria on suspicion of murder earlier this morning (Monday, May 20). They remain in police custody.

Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Mark Bellamy said: "This investigation has already resulted in five men found guilty for their part in Aurman’s death after they lay in wait for him during his delivery route, before they carried out their planned and calculated attack, resulting in his death.

"These arrests show our commitment to getting justice for Aurman's family, and how we have continued to work tirelessly to apprehend those involved in his death, and I’m grateful for the assistance of the Austrian authorities.”

Aurman, from Smethwick, was delivering parcels in Berwick Avenue when he was slaughtered in a horror short-lived attack on August 21 last year. A five-week trial heard how eight men arrived at the scene, lying in wait before launching their fatal attack.

The killers donned masks as they unleashed their violence lasting 'just seconds'. They chopped at their victim's head with a 3.5-lb axe.

His ear was partially amputated and his brain was left 'exposed' after being 'split into two'. Other weapons included a golf club, wooden stave, metal bar, hockey stick, shovel, knife and cricket bat.

Four killers were convicted of murder, while a fifth branded the 'inside man' was found guilty of manslaughter. He leaked vital information on Aurman's delivery route to his accomplices.

Judge Kristina Montgomery previously branded the murder a 'very public execution'. These men - all from Punjab, India - were jailed for their part in the crime:

  • Arshdeep Singh, 24, of Shaw Road, Tipton, was jailed for life, with a minimum term of 28 years, after being unanimously convicted of murder

  • Jagdeep Singh, 23, of Goodrich Mews, Dudley, was jailed for life, with a minimum term of 28 years, after being unanimously convicted of murder

  • Shivdeep Singh, 27, of Greenfield Road, Smethwick, was jailed for life, with a minimum term of 28 years, after being unanimously convicted of murder

  • Manjot Singh, 24, of Greenfield Road, Smethwick, was jailed for life, with a minimum term of 28 years, after being unanimously convicted of murder

  • Sukhmandeep Singh, 25, formerly of Greenfield Road, Smethwick, was jailed for 10 years after being acquitted of murder but unanimously convicted of manslaughter

There is no known motive for the attack but it has been established it was not a robbery, police said.
