Two men were arrested on suspicion of aggravated trespass at RAF Scampton after reports that they were live streaming from within the former base. The incident was reported to Lincolnshire Police on Sunday, May 12 and comes amid a video circulating online of a man filming himself on top of a roof on the site.

The men, aged 29 and 37, who live outside the county, were arrested and interviewed for a suspected offence of aggravated trespass but were later released without charges being laid. RAF Scampton, former home of the Dambusters and Red Arrows, is being controversially turned into an asylum centre by the Home Office which has received a lot of criticism for the plans.

Explaining the decision to release the men, a spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said: "As can be found via an internet search, the offence of aggravated trespass is committed when people who are lawfully on land (not themselves trespassing) who are either engaged or about to be engaged in a lawful activity, and the trespassers intend to intimidate all or some of the people on the land, from carrying out their lawful activity, try to disrupt or obstruct their activity.

"On this occasion the various elements, or points to prove, were not met and the men were released from custody." Meanwhile, Lincolnshire Police expect to receive £1.8 million from the Home Office in the coming days to help deal with policing RAF Scampton once asylum seekers arrive.
