Two officers in hospital after Perth police chase where cop car crashed

Two police officers have been hospitalised after crashing into a van during in a car chase in Perth city centre.

Shortly before 2.35pm on Tuesday, April 23, a police vehicle was in pursuit of a black Volkswagen Golf in Princes Street when it was was involved in a collision with a van.

The two officers in the vehicle were taken to Ninewells Hospita l for treatment and the Volkswagen Golf was later found abandoned nearby.

Police say the Golf has been driving "erratically" in Perth on Tuesday and they are now appealing for witnesses and dash-cam footage of the vehicle.

Emergency services descended on the scene at Princes Street in the aftermath of the crash with fire crews reportedly trying to rescue an officer trapped in the police car.

Princes Street, between Canal Street and Victoria Street, remains closed tonight whilst investigations continue.

Inspector Michelle Burns from Road Policing said: “We understand that the Volkswagen Golf has been seen driving erratically in various areas in Perth today and are appealing for any witnesses to get in touch.

“We would particularly like to hear from any motorists with dash-cam footage of the vehicle from today.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2004 of Tuesday, 23 April, 2024.”
