Two people have escaped with minor injuries after a light aircraft crashed into a field and overturned.

Emergency services raced to the scene near Stebbing, Essex, at around 1pm on Saturday.

A man in his 80s and a woman in her 30s were hurt in the incident, according to the BBC.

The aircraft is thought to have taken off from Southend, and the Air Accident Investigation Branch is now investigating.

Incident commander Scott Meekings said: "There was a real risk of a fire starting due to the engine and fuel, but thankfully this didn't happen."

Sgt Paul Gosling, who was at the scene, added: "This was an excellent response from all our partner agencies and our officers on the ground.

"Thanks to a co-ordinated multi-agency approach we were able to ensure everyone involved in this incident was able to leave this scene with only minor injuries."
