Two people were hit with a hammer and a pet was "threatened with a knife" during a terrifying Hartlepool burglary.

The incident took place at a home on Pinero Grove on Tuesday evening, when two males broke into the flat through a window before threatening the occupants and the dog. Cleveland Police say that two people were hit with a hammer, but not seriously injured, and the dog was thankfully unharmed.

The pair - who were around 6ft, white, and clad in dark-coloured tracksuits - reportedly left the property with cash and medication in a yellow Heron Foods carrier bag. The medication included morphine, which can be extremely dangerous to ingest if not prescribed, as well as Pregabalin, Propranolol and other general painkillers.

The incident took place around 9pm. The force has now issued a statement asking anyone who comes across the medication to hand it into their local police station or pharmacy immediately.

Witnesses to the robbery, or anyone with CCTV or ring doorbell footage of the suspects can call 101 quoting reference SE24074363.
