Two people have been seriously injured in a 'disturbance' in Oldham tonight (Wednesday). A large cordon has been put in place after violence broke out on Busk Road in Chadderton.

Police were seen flooding the residential street, in the estate behind the B&M store on Chadderton, shortly before 9pm this evening. Armed officers were spotted at the scene before specialist crime scene investigation (CSI) officers arrived and began carrying out enquiries inside the cordon.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said two people had suffered injuries which are believed to be serious.

Locals earlier said a person had been stabbed. The nature of any weapons used has not yet been confirmed but the Manchester Evening News understands one is believed to have been a bladed article.

A cordon remains in place with six or seven police vehicles still at the scene and officers standing guard. An eyewitness said the hub of activity appeared to be around an alleyway or footpath that runs towards the B+M store on Chadderton Way.

There was a pile of clothing visible inside the cordon at the entrance to the path. Patrols have been stepped up in the area. However, GMP said they believed that the 'isolated' incident had been 'contained.'
