Tyler Water Utilities exceeds standards, report says

TYLER, Texas (KETK) – Tyler Water Utilities (TWU) announced on Tuesday that a report for 2023 revealed that they meet and exceed state and federal standards.

The report released by TWU showed that their drinking water throughout the process of treatment and at various locations in the city met and exceeded all safety guidelines on the state and federal levels.

TWU also said that they are fully compliant with the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Program that monitors and collects data on contaminants not covered under the Safe Drinking Water Act.

The report released by TWU included that TWU receives its water from two major sources.

“Raw water from Lake Tyler and Lake Tyler East, located approximately eight miles southeast of Tyler, is pumped to Golden Road Water Treatment Plant. Raw water from Lake Palestine, located approximately 10 miles southwest of Tyler, is pumped to Lake Palestine Water Treatment Plant.”

Trinity County struggles with flooding, washed out roads

TWU added that once raw water is taken to the treatment plants, it is treated, filtered and disinfected before distribution. The water distribution system is also reportedly supplemented by 11 deep wells tapping into the Carrizo-Wilcox aquifer. The wells are considered inactive but are available for emergency uses.
