Morecambe bruiser Tyson Fury will have an eye-watering £46m wiped from his purse for the Oleksandr Usyk fight - due to the UK tax laws.

Despite losing his fight in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in the early hours of Sunday morning, the Gypsy King still managed to rake in some serious money. Ukrainian Usyk emerged victorious thanks to a split decision.

The fight purse awarded Fury a cool £100m but he faces having to fork out to the taxman. According to Stocklytics, Fury would be forced to pay £44,986,203 in income tax and £2,002,764.60 in national insurance after the fight.

That would leave the 35-year-old with a total prize fund of £53,011,032.40. "If you are a resident in the UK you have to pay tax on overseas earnings in the same way, and that remains the same no matter how much someone might earn," explained a Stocklytics spokesperson.

"Good tax advice is always important and in this case you can be sure the Fury camp will have looked at an agreement that would be the most beneficial." Fury and Usyk look on course for a rematch after a close split-decision.

In the ring, Fury had said of Usyk: "His country is at war. So people are siding with someone whose country is at war. I won that fight." Immediately after the fight, while still in the ring, Usyk had said: "Thank you so much to my team. It's a big opportunity for my family, for me, for my country."

"It's a great day." Later, at the press conference, having returned from hospital, he added: "Since 2008 I was planning for this. It's not for me. It's for my God, my supporters, my country, the Ukrainian soldiers, Ukrainian mothers and fathers, children."

"But now I want to go to my home, I want to rest, and take a break," he said. The Ukrainian went on and added: "I want to eat, sleep, kiss my wife."
