Although his boxing career may be long over, John Fury isn't ready to call time on his days of fighting.

That much became clear after the Mancunian bust himself open headbutting a member of Oleksandr Usyk's entourage, Stanislav Stepchuk, on Monday. Tyson Fury will face off against the Ukrainian world champion in Riyadh on Saturday, and it's fair to say his dad is in the mood for a war.

He looked the part, too, after he was left gushing from a self-inflicted cut to the head following an unfortunate run in with the opposing camp. Usyk, 37, and Wythenshawe native Fury, 35, were absent from the room while the two teams got acquainted - and it's not the first time fans have seen John get hurt.

The former bare knuckle fighter had his own professional career and went 8-4-1 as a boxer before retiring for good in 1995. Two of those four defeats came via knockout, however, and ended up being the final outings of his eight-year career in the ring.

Fury Sr, 59, was first stopped by future WBO champion Henry Akinwande in October 1991 at the G-Mex Centre in Manchester. He then failed to have another professional fight for almost four years before he suffered an even more devastating fourth-round knockout loss to Steve Garber in June 1995.

WARNING: Blood and distressing content

Coming back from two defeats of that nature is no easy task, although Fury has remained a fighting man and continues to live vicariously through his sons. And the Galway-born personality proved as much when he headbutted a bystander without warning during Monday's melee.

“I was just supporting my team and shouting Usyk," Stepchuk told Seconds Out soon after he was attacked by Fury Sr. "I didn’t touch him [John], he just exposed his mind and went crazy.

"If he gets mad only from shouting Usyk’s name, what will happen in five days? He thinks there isn’t respect because of shouting Usyk’s name, so maybe he is a little bit crazy."

It's far from the first time John has made intervened at one of his sons' events, having launched a bottle at KSI before he faced the youngest member of his brood, Tommy. It was on that same evening that Fury Sr almost got into a fight with Logan and Jake Paul's father, not to mention getting the stare-down cancelled after destroying a table on-stage.
