Celtic will have to shatter their club transfer record to sign Trabzonspor No1 Ugurcan Cakir.

The Hoops are in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer as Joe Hart prepares to bring the curtain down on his distinguished career. And reports in Turkey over the weekend claimed that the Double-chasers had made contact with Super Lig outfit Trabzonspor over a deal for highly-rated Cakir.

Parkhead CEO Michael Nicholson is said to have requested permission for Brendan Rodgers to hold a zoom meeting with Cakir and the Turkey international's representatives. It was suggested that the Scottish champions were willing to stump up around £7.5million to land the 28-year-old, who is under contract until June 2027.

However, Kontra Spor have stated that Trabzonspor have slapped an eye-watering £12.5m asking price on the shotstopper's head. Crucially, it's said that the Turkish side won't stand in their long-serving star's way, should an attractive offer be officially tabled.

But Celts will have to break the £10million transfer record they paid PSG for Odsonne Edouard in 2018 to land the 27-times capped keeper. Celts do have Scott Bain and Ben Siegrist in the ranks, but neither is considered the answer to succeeding Hart between the sticks.
