UK braced for 'first' 30C heatwave of year and it will last 72 hours

The first UK heatwave of summer will hit and last 72 hours next week, according to early predictions. WX Charts, which are projected daily using Met Desk data, show temperatures "feeling like" 30C on June 26, and the good conditions are likely to last until June 29.

Somerset will be warmest but the benefit will also be felt across the Midlands and south of England, the reports suggest. Birmingham, Cardiff, London and Salisbury will roast alongside Somerset, the early predictions and maps forecast.

Looking at the last week of June, from June 24 to June 30, the BBC Weather team explained: "In the last week of June, there are increasing signs that high pressure will build up near or over parts of the UK, after initially rather changeable conditions in some parts.

"This increases the likelihood of somewhat drier and calmer weather developing, with temperatures recovering." The forecasting team went on to say: "There is even a chance that warm summery conditions could spread further as the week progresses."

"However, the main risk remains that low pressure systems near Iceland will blanket larger parts, or at least Scotland and Northern Ireland, with slightly wetter and slightly cooler conditions," the team at the Beeb went on to say in an update.

Exacta Weather's James Madden said: "There are now some good and increasing signals for change just after mid-month and into the final part of June within our own forecast projections that appear to repeatedly build high pressure and some warm to potentially hot temperatures across our shores within this period, and this switch should be more than capable of bringing the warmest weather of the year to date to many locations within the UK and Ireland."

"We can also expect further changes to these third-party computer projections going forward and to pave the way for a very warm to exceptionally hot July, with the high possibility of some sort of mega or super heatwave developing for an extended duration within this period."
