UK households of four people to get £155 towards Cost of Living

Thousands will be given £225 vouchers to help tide them over amid the ongoing Cost of Living crisis. Thousands of households can apply for vouchers worth up to £225 to help with the Cost of Living as the Household Support Fund is extended.

The government confirmed the Household Support Fund was being extended as part of the latest Spring Statement and Budget from Tory Chancellor, Jeremy Hunt. Medway Council, in the South-East of England, has already opened applications for struggling residents.

Funded by the UK government, the scheme is for those most in need of support to help with significantly rising living costs. The fund can be used for food and home essentials and school uniforms as well as energy, water and essentials linked to energy and water.

It can also be used on housing costs in exceptional circumstances, but not mortgages. The fund is available to everyone who lives in Medway, including those who are not currently in receipt of benefits and who are not eligible for public funds.

The scheme is administered to a fixed budget. The terms of the scheme could change during the year. Food and household essentials vouchers will see single people get £65 and a household with 2 people £85 while a household with 3 people gets £115, a household with 4 people gets £155, a household with 5 people gets £190 and a household with 6 or more people lands £225.

There is also a £100 school uniform grant for every dependent school age child (per household per year unless in exceptional circumstances). A referral will be made to the Fuel Bank Foundation who will send a voucher for the value of £36 to prevent self-disconnection.

They will also help to prevent the emergency occurring again, the local authority has confirmed in a guide online.
