UK households with sandpit in garden face being slapped with £185 bill

UK households who have a sandpit in their garden have been warned. An urgent warning has been issued to UK households and people across the UK over a hot weather garden mistake that could cost parents up to £185 to fix.

David Rees, a plumbing expert from HomeSupply, said in a statement alongside the warning this week: "As sand can be heavy, it will collect in the u-bend of your pipes. Over time, enough sand can accumulate in the drain trap and prevent it from draining properly."

David went on and said: "Always hose off sandy items before bringing them into the home and keep sandy shoes in the hallway. You could also install strainers over drains to catch any debris before it has a chance to build up."

The plumbing expert continued and also added that if a plumber is called out to deal with blockages in drains, homeowners can face costs of anywhere between £80 to £185 depending on the services needed. David said: "You could try using a drain plunger to try and ease the build up.

"A drain snake or a wire hanger could also be useful." It’s a well-known fact that kids love the beach, but it’s just not possible to take them all the time. With the best sandpits you don’t have to. Not only are sandpits heaps of fun, they also provide plenty of opportunity for outdoor active and sensory play.

They encourage creativity and imagination, and supporting the development of fine motor skills with all that digging and sandcastle-building. But plumbing experts have warned erecting one in your garden could leave you an eye-watering £185 out of pocket.

The warnings have come amid hopes a UK heatwave could finally materialise, with days of 30C heat forecast in the south of England next week.
