UK to roast in 'hotter than Ibiza' heatwave with four parts of England scorching

Parts of the UK will roast hotter than IBIZA today as the hottest day of the year is crowned - before being smashed again tomorrow. Highs of 25C are expected in London, the East of England, the south of England, and the Midlands, before 26C temperatures on Sunday.

Ibiza, a Med party island in the Balearics, will languish in 20C and 21C highs. Leading bookmaker Coral has cut the odds to 4-5 (from 2-1) on this month being the hottest May since records began in an update for the country as the UK sizzles.

“The glorious weather is set to continue into the weekend, and with a bright outlook for the next couple of weeks, we have the slashed the odds on this month ending as a record-hot May," said Coral's John Hill, a spokesperson.

The Met Office said: "High pressure continues to dominate, bringing a dry day with plenty of sunny spells, although perhaps the odd shower through the afternoon. Feeling very warm in the sunshine." It adds: "Plenty of evening sunshine, then dry overnight with prolonged clear spells. With light winds, there will be some mist and fog patches forming in places.

"A warm sunny day for many, though some patchy coastal mist is possible in places. A few heavy afternoon showers or thunderstorms developing across northern England and southern Scotland." The BBC Weather team said: "Tomorrow will be similar with plenty of warm sunshine and mostly dry conditions.

"Scotland will see some afternoon showers, however, these locally heavy and thundery." The outlook for Sunday to Tuesday adds: "Sunday will continue warm. It will be mainly dry in the east but the west will see showers, some heavy and thundery in the southwest.

"Monday will be largely cloudy with outbreaks of rain across the UK, heavier and more persistent in the south. Tuesday will continue unsettled with heavy rain moving to the north whilst the south-west will see showers."
