UK to roast hotter than Menorca with 24C mini-heatwave within days

UK weather maps show how Britain will sizzle hotter than Menorca with a 24C mini-heatwave to hit in days. Temperatures are set to heat up from May 3 to May 5 with areas around Manchester experiencing 24C as we head into the fifth month of the year.

Menorca is expected to only reach 19C on May 3. Phil Morrish, a weather expert, said: “By the bank holiday weekend the winds will be turning into the South West bringing us much warmer air from the Azores as High pressure ridges in from the South West.

“The temperature will reach 19C in the South and 17C in the Midlands and even 15c in the North and in Scotland so a warmer and mainly dry bank holiday is in prospect at the moment so there is something to look forward too.”

The current outlook for Wednesday to Friday on the Met Office website reads: "Mostly dry as we move into May but showers remain possible. Feeling warmer than of late with spells of sunshine. Temperatures becoming generally above average but also breezy at times."

The forecast from May 3 to May 12 adds: "During the first weekend, northern parts of the UK are likely to be predominantly dry, while areas of rain or showers, perhaps heavy and thundery, clear erratically from the south to usher in a spell of drier weather here too.

"There is likely to be a fair amount of low cloud in the east at times, with spells of coastal fog, but also temperatures generally above average for the time of year. Through the following week, all areas are likely to see a mixture of periods of rain and drier interludes.

"Overall, northern, especially northwestern, parts of the UK will probably be driest and sunniest, while the more changeable conditions remain more likely in the south. Temperatures should remain close to or a little above normal for early May."
