UK set for 31C 'mega heatwave' in July with exact date it'll kick off announced

The exact date the next heatwave will hit Britain with the UK sent roasting by skyrocketing temperatures has been confirmed. The UK basked in a heatwave last week, with a new hottest day of the year registered as swathes of Britain sizzled.

Wednesday was the hottest day of the year so far, with 30.3C (86.5F) recorded at Heathrow, the Met Office has confirmed. Exacta Weather update, forecaster James Madden said the good weather could return inside a week of the seventh month of the year.

Mr Madden said: "We now expect the more southern-driven jet stream to start to drive northwards from in and around this time next week and during the following week, starting on July 8th. This will allow for our shores (UK and Ireland) to come under a much warmer airflow over an extended period from this pattern change, and it will also place us in an extremely favourable position for high pressure rises and some hot to very hot temperatures on a widespread scale from in and around mid-July and throughout much of the second half of the month."

He added: "Some early indicators are now filtering through for a major heatwave or heat dome scenario in mid-July! The CFS computer model is now seeing a return of hot to extremely hot weather conditions (potential heat dome) on three consecutive runs for around mid-July!

"It won't be long before the GFS and ECM start incorporating these dates into their outputs and becoming aware of this for the same period of 10th–20th July." The forecaster and meteorologist went on and said: "More details are to follow on this shortly."

The Met Office forecast for July 6 to July 15 said: "The coming weekend is likely to be rather cool and showery, particularly so on Saturday although the most frequent showers are likely to be reserved for the northwest of the country.

"Plenty of dry weather with sunny spells in-between the showers. Into the following week, further cloud and rain bearing weather systems are likely to move across the UK, accompanied by stronger winds at times in the west, continuing the recent changeable theme.

"However, there are tentative signs that following the early part of next week, conditions may begin to gradually turn a bit more settled, at least for a time. This particularly so across eastern parts, with temperatures more widely trending back up to average and then potentially above average as the week progresses."
