UK set to shiver in two-day freeze with one part of England hammered by snow

One part of Britain looks set to be worst-hit by snow next week - with England hammered by as much as 2cm per hour. Weather maps and charts, projected by WX Charts using Met Desk data, show a downturn in conditions across Tuesday April 23 and Wednesday April 24, with Scotland facing -5C lows in parts.

In England, the Pennines looks set to be hit, with a "snow risk" across the north, according to James madden from Exacta Weather. Despite the reports from some forecasters and meteorologists, the Met Office aren't convinced.

In an outlook from April 20 into May, the forecasting agency explains: "Cloud cover is rather uncertain, as some cloudy and clear regions are expected, with the chance of frost and fog where the clearer conditions are to be found overnight.

"A few light showers or some light rain will still be possible at times, this will be more likely to affect peripheral regions of the country." BBC Weather, meanwhile, says the "final week of the month is uncertain". "Temperatures will be slightly above average early next week and could become closer to average or slightly below mainly to the north by the middle of next week, with a trend to slowly recover towards the weekend. A few chilly or even frosty nights are possible, mainly in Scotland," it adds.

Looking ahead to the end of this week, from Wednesday April 17 onwards, Netweather TV says: "Into the end of the week, with low pressure to the east and high pressure to the west, the UK will be in a flow from a northerly direction once again and back to a sunshine and showers type of setup.

"For a change though, high pressure does look likely to be the winner by the weekend, slowly edging east to settle the weather down." It also warns Wednesday looks like being a day of "scattered showers" following the high winds on Monday April 15.

The BBC adds: "Today will see a northerly flow across the UK, with a mix of sunshine and scattered showers for most, but it will be cloudy with more frequent showers in eastern England for a time. Breezy for many."
