UK set to sizzle in Azores High heatwave which 'is as hot as Spain and Portugal'

The UK faces an Azores High sending the country as hot as PORTUGAL and parts of Europe this month. The Azores High has been projected by climate maps and charts published by Netweather TV, which has given its verdict on the sixth month of the year and what lies in store for the rest of June.

A forecaster with Netweather, a meteological service in the UK, wrote on its blog: "There are signs that the Azores High will strengthen, as is common towards the end of June, and throw up some ridges north-eastwards towards the British Isles, associated with the traditional late June pattern shift towards a stronger Azores High and stronger westerlies on its northern flank.

"The high pressure may ridge across the country more generally later in the week (Monday June 24 to Sunday June 30), perhaps with changeable south-westerlies coming into north-western Britain, though eastern England in particular will remain prone to northerly winds."

"Temperatures are likely to come out above normal in most parts of the UK, but in eastern and south-eastern England they will probably be close to normal. It will probably be drier and sunnier than average in most western regions but potentially cloudier and/or wetter than normal in the east, especially the south-east," the forecaster for Netweather continued.

As the Azores High continues to expand, drying will intensify in Spain and Portugal. The region will see a 10-20% drop in winter rainfall over the coming century – making agriculture of the region “some of the most vulnerable in Europe", a study has previously revealed.

In an outlook for June 25 to July, the Met Office predicts: "There is little sign for any one type of weather pattern to dominate during this period. As such, typical conditions for the UK are most probable with a mixture of weather types.

"All areas can expected to see some spells of drier, sunnier weather, but there will also be showers or longer spells of rain at times. Temperatures are most likely to be close to or slightly above climatological average."
