UK tourists in Thailand being 'banned' from leaving due to 'tiny' passport issue

UK tourists have been warned they are being BARRED from leaving Thailand over a passport issue. A Brit yoga teacher has been left stranded in Thailand and barred from a return flight over a "tiny" passport problem in the Far East.

Rosie Viscomi , 27, from Norfolk, was due to return from Bangkok on July 4 but her flight home was abruptly put on halt. The 27-year-old says she was denied boarding over a "tiny tear" on her passport - forcing her to stay in Asia.

IndiGo Airlines told The Sun: "On July 4, 2024, a foreign national, flying on IndiGo flight 6E1054 from Bangkok to Delhi was unable to board, as their passport was found to be damaged. IndiGo followed the guidelines by the regulatory authorities and offered requisite assistance to the customer.

"Customers are advised to familiarise themselves with such guidelines, which may differ from country to country." On its website, the UK Passport Office states: "In most cases the customer will only need to send in their damaged passport unless they are overseas and must send in extra identity evidence. Local Service offices will send damaged passports back to HM Passport Office for processing.

"You, the examiner, must ask the customer for extra documents if any of their personal details have changed since we issued their previous passport. For example, you must ask for documents to confirm a different: name, date of birth, place of birth, gender.

"You must also ask the customer for their documents if you are unable to confirm their identity or nationality from our records. For example, we must ask for more documents if we do not have a record of the passport, our records show the customer previously held a different British nationality (with no evidence why it was changed) or we are unable to confirm their identity from the information given."

It adds: "You must deal with the customer’s application using the lost, stolen and recovered guidance, if they cannot send us their damaged passport because they have destroyed it."
