This delightful Suffolk village is celebrated for its exclusive vibe, boasting a high street brimming with independent boutiques and quaint cafes.

Southwold, affectionately referred to as "Chelsea-on-Sea", offers an idyllic retreat for those seeking one-of-a-kind shopping experiences and snug coffee spots, all amidst the picturesque setting of a pristine beach and striking coastal landmarks.

The town has earned a status as one of Britain's most prestigious villages, with its local council firmly resisting the establishment of chain stores like Costa and Waterstones within its bounds.

Nevertheless, Waterstones managed to gain entry, under the stipulation that it retained the name of the former occupant, Southwold Books.

Consequently, the town's commercial landscape is dominated by independent ventures, ranging from charming cafes to distinctive establishments such as the Amber Shop, renowned for its amber jewellery and accompanying museum, reports the Express.

Amongst Southwold's notable features is the grand lighthouse, erected in 1890, which is equipped with a rotating 150-watt lamp that shines across 24 nautical miles. The Adnams Brewery even offers tours of this historic beacon.

The Southwold Pier stands as a bastion of old-fashioned seaside amusement, hosting model yacht regattas on its boating lake a practice steeped in Victorian tradition.

At the end of the pier, you'll find a unique collection of coin-operated arcade machines, created by artist and engineer Tim Hunkin, with paddle steamers often seen docking nearby.

The Southwold Museum offers visitors an opportunity to delve into the town's rich history, showcasing a variety of exhibits on its local and natural past.

Southwold has a rich history, with famous author George Orwell spending his formative years in the town during his teens and again in his 30s, penning some of his renowned works there.

Like many seaside towns, Southwold's main attraction is its beautiful beach, featuring golden sands overlooked by charming colourful beach huts. Despite some tourists claiming the town is losing its charm, it continues to draw numerous visitors who are attracted to its unique appeal.

For those wishing to fully experience Southwold, a double room at the town's Amber House can be booked for around £85 per night.
