Ulrika Jonsson has opened up about the breakdown of her third marriage and revealed that she had sex with ex-husband Brian Monet once in eight-and-a-half years.

In a heartfelt article she penned for The Sun, the 51-year-old television host recalled how she thought she “might have to just accept that [she] would never have sex ever again” around her birthday two years ago.

“The reason I thought this is because I had not had sex for four and half years,” she candidly admitted. “And the time before that was four years prior. I was living in a sexless marriage for nearly a decade.

“That just didn’t feel right. It felt unnatural and as if part of my life was over.”

The former Celebrity Big Brother contestant went to explain that she and Monet had had “really great sexual attraction” when they met but as the years went on, they became much less physically intimate.

“The prospect of living without intimacy for the rest of my life did feel like a terrible waste and such a loss. I was about to turn 50 — there was life in the old girl yet.

“It made me, as a woman who has always enjoyed affection in relationships, feel rejected and confused.”

Jonsson continued: “I have no idea why things petered out. I want to be very clear here: Intimacy is not just about chandelier-swinging, Fifty Shades Of Grey sex.

“It’s the physical exchange of the love that passes between two people. It’s affection and a natural understanding. It’s touching, it’s closeness. In my marriage, it was all but gone.”

Jonsson married American advertising executive Brian Monet in March 2008. Their son, Malcolm, was born three months later. In 2014, Monet adopted Ulrika’s daughter Bo, from her previous relationship with Markus Kempen.

They announced that they had divorced in April 2019. Just last week, the former appeared on daytime chat show Loose Women to talk about how “incredibly tough” the last year has been.

“The first torture was thinking about the children and then the second one was, ‘Oh my god, when this comes out…the papers, this is her third marriage, she has failed again’. It’s inevitably the woman’s fault and responsibility.”

But Jonsson went on to admit that she actually found things easier once everything was out in the open because she was no longer having to keep up the facade that she and Monet were perfectly happy as a couple.

“It was hard because you are putting on a front of going, ‘Everything is fine!’ but it’s not,” she told Andrea McClean, Nadia Sawalha, Kéllé Bryan and Lisa Maxwell.
