Netflix's The Umbrella Academy has cast Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally and David Cross in its fourth and final season.

With filming now underway in Toronto, Variety confirmed the news that real-life couple Offerman and Mullally (who both starred in Parks and Recreation) will bring to life doctors Gene and Jean Thibedeau - community college professors "who wear sensible footwear and suffer from the most extreme case of déjà vu this timeline has ever seen".

Cross, an icon of the Arrested Development world, has signed on to play "upstanding, shy business owner and family man" Sy Grossman, who will "stop at nothing" to reunite with his estranged daughter.

Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H Min, Ritu Arya and Colm Feore will reprise their respective characters for the superpower show's last hurrah.

"I'm so excited that the incredibly loyal fans of The Umbrella Academy will be able to experience the fitting end to the Hargreeves siblings' journey we began five years ago," shared showrunner Steve Blackman when its fate was first announced.

“But before we get to that conclusion, we've got an amazing story ahead for season four, one that will have fans on the edge of their seats until the final minutes."

Back in June of last year, Blackman also explained how The Umbrella Academy avoids the same mistakes as Game of Thrones, which eventually surpassed the action of the original novels.

"Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá have great generosity of spirit. They know the next 10 volumes that they'll write over a decade. So they always share with me where they think they're going," he revealed.

"We've come to an understanding that the graphic novel and the TV show can coexist. We inspire each other. Things we do in the show, often they say, 'Hey that's cool, we'll put that in the graphic novel'."

"I'd like not to get too ahead of the comics. I don't want the show to eventually completely go off to a corner that doesn't match anything they're doing."

The Umbrella Academy seasons 1-3 are now streaming on Netflix. Season 4 is on its way.
