Umm, what's going on with this 'incest' storyline in Netflix's Family Switch?

Over the weekend Netflix dropped its latest Christmas movie Family Switch and while many viewers were loving the new film (its currently number one on Netflix in the UK), there was one particular storyline revolving around "incest" that many viewers were rather confused by.

In case you haven't seen the movie yet, Family Switch stars Jennifer Garner, Ed Helms, Emma Myers and Brady Noon as a family who all end up switching bodies the night before many of them have big potentially life-changing challenges. Jennifer Garner's character Jess, switches bodies with her daughter 17-year-old CC, played by Emma Myers, and Ed Helms' character Bill switches bodies with son Wyatt, who is played by Brady Noon.

As with any body switch movie there's always going to be a few awkward moments, but perhaps none so awkward as the slight 'incest storyline' viewers saw in Family Switch.

In one particular scene CC and Wyatt are in their parents' bodies when Jess (technically CC) has a group of her friends round for a catchup.

As the women are talking, one of the women says a couple should have at least 12 kisses a day to keep their relationship going. This prompts the women to encourage Jess and Bill (who are actually CC and Wyatt) to share a kiss.

Wyatt (in the body of dad Bill) is of course very resistant to the idea of the two kissing, however sister CC (in the body of Jess) says the women may be onto them and they should kiss to get them off their backs. The two then share a very uncomfortable looking kiss, with Wyatt/Bill appearing to want to vomit during the scene and CC/Jess pursing her lips to avoid the kiss.

It's very clear neither of the siblings want to engage in the act, and find it deeply uncomfortable, and so it appears did many Netflix viewers, who took to social media to express their discomfort at the scene.

One person on X (formerly known as Twitter) wrote: "THE RANDOM INCEST IN FAMILY SWITCH CAUGHT ME SO OFF GUARD."

While another said: "I'm watching that new movie called Family Switch and oh my lord the sudden incest is smth that was so unexpected and unnecessary..."

And another said: "Family Switch marks a real low point body-swap comedies as it steals from all others before it without compunction. But you can thank your lucky stars they don’t go for the lowest hanging fruit: incest jokes. Just kidding. Those are there. I had you."

Thankfully, despite that one particular scene being quite uncomfortable to watch, many viewers enjoyed the rest of the film, with one calling it "delightful" and many praising Emma Myers' acting skills.

So yeah, maybe just skip that scene if you're planning on watching Family Switch this festive season.
