Forecasters have painted a thunderous picture for the start of the Bank Holiday weekend, but say there is 'uncertainty' about the weather later in the weekend. The Met Office reports a risk of thunderstorms continues in the North today after a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms covered southern parts of the county yesterday (May 2).

The Met Office said the uncertainty is being caused by computer models disagreeing about the exact track an area of low pressure will take across southern parts of the UK, pushing a plume of warm air from the east across the UK. Cheshire will likely see better weather than the south of England this weekend as a result.

The Met Office reports Friday "will remain unsettled with rain or showers for some. The risk of thunderstorms continues, but the risk is lower tomorrow with storms fewer in number and more isolated."

The Met Office's Deputy Chief Meteorologist Mark Sidaway said: “There continues to be uncertainty around the track of a low-pressure system which is expected to cross the southern UK this weekend, meaning there is some uncertainty about some of the forecast details.

"While it will remain unsettled with further showers or longer spells of rain, all areas should see some drier conditions at some point and, in any sunshine, it should feel quite warm. But for the exact details for your area stay up to date with forecast over the coming days.”

Chester will see heavy rain this evening from 6pm to around 11pm, with lighter but persistent rain through the early hours of Saturday morning, according to the Met Office. A dry weekend will follow, with highs of 15°C on Sunday and 17°C on Monday.

Some sunshine will be seen Monday. The forecast is nearly identical elsewhere in the county, with Crewe seeing brief sunny spells Sunday morning and Monday, as will Warrington, with temperatures reaching at least 16°C and no higher than 17°C across Cheshire.

Macclesfield is predicted to have cloud cover throughout the weekend, breaking Monday.
