Kitty SOS: This cute kitten had to be rescued after getting stuck in a table's parasol hole

This helpless kitten had to be cut free from a garden table - after he got his head stuck in the parasol hole.

The kitten, who has since been christened 'Parasol', was heard mewing by a passerby who found him in a garden with his head wedged tight in the centre of patio furniture.

It is not known how long he was struck before RSPCA rescued him.

The seven-week-old tabby was so distressed when officers arrived at the house in Lewisham, London, they called a nearby vet to sedate him.

RSPCA officers then managed to remove planks of wood from the table and free the stricken kitten's neck.

RSPCA Inspector Nick Wheelhouse said: ‘A member of public heard a young cat's cry and upon investigation found the kitten with his head stuck in the parasol hole of a wooden table.

‘The poor little thing was completely stuck and struggling to free himself.

‘We had to be very careful not to hurt him, so we asked a vet from Celia Hammond Animal Trust to sedate him and keep him safe while we dismantled the table to free him.

‘We would have really struggled to free this stricken kitten if it had not been for the out of hours service that the Trust provide.

‘Thankfully once he was sedated the kitten was freed from the table and was taken back to the surgery to be checked over.’

Parasol has recovered at the centre, and has been paired up with another kitten called Marina while he waits for a new owner.

Lesley Mills, rescue and rehoming manager from the Celia Hammond Animal Trust, said: ‘Parasol is doing extremely well. Thankfully he just needed some TLC to get him back on his feet.

‘He has now made a friend in Marina and we are hoping they can find a home together once they are both ready to be rehomed.’
