'Uniquely Alaskan': Boiling Water Instantly Freezes Under Bright Green Aurora in Fairbanks

Bright green aurora in Alaska served as a magical backdrop for a “fun trick” involving boiling water and freezing temperatures, footage shared online shows,

The video, shot by Vincent Ledvina in Fairbanks, shows his friend launching boiling water into the air as the stunning aurora shone above.

The water can be seen instantly freezing, creating what Ledvina described as a “cool halo of steam and vapor”.

Ledvina told Storyful that the he and his friend were camping out for the night back in March, when he got the idea to do the trick under the glow of the northern lights.

“I think this is a fun trick and just shows the unique conditions we get up here in Alaska,” Ledvina said. “I mean, have you ever seen anyone do the boiling water trick under the aurora, and really, how many people CAN do it?”

“It’s uniquely Alaskan,” he said of the experience. Credit: Vincent Ledvina via Storyful
