University of Michigan Students Erect 'Encampment for Gaza' on Campus

Students set up tents on “The Diag,” an open space on the University of Michigan’s campus in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to protest for Gaza, video filmed on April 22 shows.

Video by Brendan Gutenschwager shows tents and banners at the campsite, dubbed the “encampment for Gaza,” on Monday, with banners urging the university to “divest from Israel.”

One of the protest’s organizing groups, TAHRIR Coalition (Transparency Accountability Humanity Reparations Investment Resistance), claims the University of Michigan’s endowment relies on investments in the military-industrial complex, including investments in companies that allegedly provide arms and surveillance technology to Israel. The protest urges the university to divest from all investments that may support Israel’s military and calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Credit: Brendan Gutenschwager via Storyful
