Upcoming Horror TV Shows: The New Scary Shows Coming To TV And Streaming

As a lifelong horror fan, I know there are times when even the best horror movies of all time can fail to scratch the itch that needs more longform storytelling to be sated. For those who are already fully versed in the top-tier horror TV shows already out there in the world — from anthologies like Twilight Zone and Channel Zero to the serialized scares of Chucky and Twin Peaks — we must look to the future!

Check out all the upcoming horror TV shows that are coming to stalk fans in 2024, 2025 and beyond.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 2 - AMC (Summer 2024)

Even though Norman Reedus’ The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon premiered after Dead City, its second season will be airing far ahead of the Negan spinoff, and with Melissa McBride’s Carol back in the saddle to eventually cross paths with her BFF Daryl, and possibly save him from an evil threat or two. (It’s even subtitled The Book of Carol this time around.) Filming wrapped just before Christmas 2023, and development has already started on Season 3, which hasn’t been formally confirmed yet.

Joko Anwar's Nightmares and Daydreams - Netflix (June 14, 2024)

Indonesian filmmaker Joko Anwar appears set to take everyone with a Netflix subscription on a wild ass ride with his supernatural thriller Nightmares and Daydreams. To the point where the synopsis itself points out “there isn’t necessarily a rational explanation” for what will be on display. It’s set to feature everyday people who are faced with strange situations that tie into humanity’s distant past, as well as its potentially doomed future. The various characters and stories will be tied together, also, in ways that are described as “awe-inspiring.”

From Season 3 - MGM+ (Fall 2024)

Lost and 28 Weeks Later vet Harold Perrineau is returning to the monstrous setting of The Township for the third season of MGM+’s From, which unveiled its first teaser in April. There’s no release date noted for the series just yet, but fans will be able to see this mystery-fueled small town’s return at some point in the fall to reveal to fans exactly what happened to Tabitha and the others after that bonkers Season 2 finale.

Grotesquerie - FX (Fall 2024)

In February, American Horror Story and Dahmer co-creator Ryan Murphy surprisingly revealed the brand new horror project Grotesquerie, which has yet to actually unveil any narrative elements or plot points. What we do know is that the new series will reteam Murphy with Dahmer’s Niecy Nash-Betts and American Crime Story’s Courtney B. Vance, with The Crown’s Lesley Manville and famed Taylor Swift wooer and Super Bowl champ Travis Kelce also cast.

Tales from the Void - ScreamBox (Fall 2024)

While not every frightening thing found on Reddit is meant to fall under the horror genre umbrella, that’s indeed the case for the upcoming anthology series Tales from the Void, which will be streaming as a ScreamBox exclusive. Created by Francesco Loschiavo, the six episodes making up Season 1 are adaptations of some of the most terrifying tales found in the wildly popular NoSleep subreddit. Genre filmmakers such as Joe Lynch (Suitable Flesh) and Maritte Lee Go (Black as Night) are handling respective eps.

Generation Z - Channel 4 (Late 2024)

Having first been announced back in 2019, the upcoming UK horror-comedy Generation Z will actually become a reality in the near-ish future, with production having taken place throughout late 2023. Created by Kill List and Meg 2’s Ben Wheatley, the series will center on a care home that gets overturned by an army convoy, which causes a chemical leak that seemingly turns all of the home’s elderly residents into zombies who then attack the town’s younger generations.

Squid Game Season 2 - Netflix (December 2024)

Following its smash hit debut season on Netflix, Squid Game expanded its reach to include the reality competition The Challenge, but what fans are really waiting for is Season 2, which creator Hwang Dong-hyuk says will bring back some favorite characters like Gi-hun and the Front Man, while also introducing important new characters such as Young-hee’s boyfriend. Filming for Season 2 reportedly kicked off in August 2023, with a plan to film for ten months. While Hwang has claimed the second season will be out by December 2024, that has yet to be confirmed by Netflix itself.

School Spirits Season 2 - Paramount+ (Early 2025)

Adapted from a graphic novel that won’t be published until September 2025, School Spirits follows Peyton List’s currently dead character Maddie as she adjusts to living in the afterlife while trying to investigate her own disappearance. The first season wrapped in April 2023, and did a good job at winning over both fans and critics with its spooky-fun storytelling. Filming for Season 2 is reportedly starting up in Summer 2024, though nothing official has been announced just yet.

The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 - AMC (Early 2025)

There’s no end in sight to the lineup of upcoming Walking Dead shows on the way, even though the amount isn’t as large as it once was. Currently, fans are waiting to see Jeffrey Dean Morgan back in his Negan leathers alongside Lauren Cohan’s Maggie for the second season of the NYC-set Dead City, while will see the not-exactly-friendly survivors teaming up to go after the evil Dama that traumatized Hershel. Filming for Season 2 kicked off in April 2024, with Sons of Anarchy vet Kim Coates joining.

Welcome To Derry, Season 1 - Max (2025)

Director Andy Muschietti made creepy clown movies terrifying again with his two-part, theatrical adaptation of Stephen King’s seminal novel, It. For anyone who ever wanted to know more about the shapeshifting, fear-eating entity known as Pennywise and the town it haunts, a prequel series coming to Max called Welcome to Derry -- and starring the likes of Jovan Adepo and Taylour Paige -- is poised to deliver just that when it finally arrives in 2025.

Yellowjackets Season 3 - Showtime (2025)

One of many popular TV series whose development process was thrown into disarray by the 2023 Hollywood strikes, Showtime’s Yellowjackets confirmed in mid-May 2024 that production on Season 3 finally kicked off, though fans will obviously still need to wait a while to see how the teen survivors will fare the gigantic Season 2 finale setbacks. Before the new season arrives next year, though, the showrunner have promised a standalone episode will drop in late 2023 to whet everyone’s appetites, so to speak.

The Bondsman - Prime Video (2025)

From Blumhouse Television comes Kevin Bacon’s latest and most unpredictable TV venture yet, the Prime Video series The Bondsman. While we have yet to see exactly how horrific this show’s tone will be, it centers on Bacon as a “backwoods bounty hunter” who unexpectedly returns from the dead with a new lease on living, romancing, and making music for money. Unfortunately, perhaps, there’s something very demonic about everything now that he’s back. The new show will also co-star Donnie Darko’s Beth Grant, Justified’s Damon Herriman and more.

The Last Of Us Season 2 - HBO (2025)

Said to be the show that broke the “video game adaptation curse,” developer Craig Mazin’s series based on 2013’s hit zombie survival game starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey was an instant, widely acclaimed hit. Very quickly after its premiere on HBO, The Last of Us Season 2 was announced, which -- per Deadline -- is set for a 2025 premiere and has cast Kaitlyn Dever in the role of Abby.

Wednesday Season 2 - Netflix (2025)

Few could have predicted just how big of a smash hit Wednesday would be for Netflix, and the Addams’ family teen will return to Netflix for more mysteries in Season 2. The upcoming episodes began filming in May 2024, with new cast members such as Steve Buscemi, Thandiwe Newton and Billie Piper joining star Jenna Ortega on the Emmy-friendly series, as well as former Uncle Fester portrayer himself, Christopher Lloyd.

Mayfair Witches, Season 2 - AMC (2025)

Not long after Interview with the Vampire premiered, AMC debuted another Anne Rice adaptation starring Alexandra Daddario that focused on a different area of gothic fantasy lore: witchcraft. Thora Birch, Ted Levine, Alyssa Jirrels, and former Superstore cast member Ben Fedlman (per Deadline) have joined the Mayfair Witches Season 2 cast. AMC revealed in late May 2024 that Season 2 is now aiming for a 2025 release window.

Alien Season 1 - FX (TBA)

In addition to Fede Álvarez's upcoming Alien: Romulus hitting theaters in 2024, a new story from the world of one of the greatest sci-fi movies is also coming to the small screen. Fargo EP Noah Hawley is the showrunner for a prequel TV series, starring The Babadook's Essie Davis and Timothy Olyphant, that we hope will introduce a new iteration of the Xenomorph when it premieres on FX.

Stranger Things Season 5 - Netflix (TBA)

The ending of Stranger Things Season 4 teased that things are about to get much worse — and not just for the main gang, but all of Hawkins — as a vengeful Vecna reemerges. The story will reach its epic conclusion when the fifth and final season of Netflix’s nostalgic, blockbuster sci-fi/horror series premieres. According to Deadline, production started in January in Atlanta.

The Watcher Season 2 - Netflix (TBA)

To the surprise of many, Ryan Murphy’s seemingly one-and-done horror-tinged thriller The Watcher was renewed for a second season in November 2022, continuing a story whose (loosely adapted) source material was never properly resolved for the real-life family who was temporarily plagued by a mysterious creepster who dubbed themself “The Watcher.” At the end of January 2024, co-star Naomi Watts still hadn’t heard any details (via EW), so it’s technically still unclear whether the second season will continue focusing on Nora and Dean’s story, or if someone new will step in.

Teacup - Peacock (Unknown)

With James Wan’s Atomic Monster serving as one of its production companies, the upcoming horror thriller Teacup is based on the Robert McCammon novel Stinger, centering on a group of desperate rural Georgia residents who have to join forces in taking on a mysterious threat. Starring Dexter vet Yvonne Strahovski, The Strangers’ Scott Speedman and more, Teacup was created by former Yellowstone writer/producer Ian McCulloch, with Azrael director E.L. Katz helming at least the first ep.

The Conjuring TV Show Spin-Off - Max (TBA)

We suppose it was only a matter of time before the MCU of the horror genre, if you will, took a cue from Marvel Studios and tried its hand at small screen entertainment. According to THR, a new TV show existing in the same world as James Wan’s Conjuring Universe movies is in development for Max.

Crystal Lake, Season 1 - Peacock (TBA)

What makes Jason Voorhees such an iconic horror movie villain — outside of the hockey mask — is his tragic backstory, which fans will get to learn more about in a new prequel series heading to Peacock. Original Friday the 13th final girl, Adrienne King, will have a recurring role on the upcoming A24 TV show, Crystal Lake, lost its creative guidance when Bryan Fuller bowed out of the series over reported creative disputes.

Untitled Halloween TV Show (TBA)

Just when you thought it was safe to go back to Haddonfield following the finale of Halloween Ends, Miramax is developing a series based on the long-running franchise of Halloween movies, per THR. We have plenty of questions and suggestions regarding this Halloween TV show, such as, is Michael Myers going to be involved or will they take the Halloween III route and make an anthology of new stories?

Hysteria! - Peacock (TBA)

“Satanic Panic” and the role that heavy metal music played in that era of '80s paranoia serves as the basis for the upcoming Peacock exclusive series, Hysteria! Modern Family's Julie Bowen and horror movie icon Bruce Campbell star in the show, which was shot in Atlanta Georgia.

The Wicker Man Season 1 - TBA (TBA)

One of the most shocking and iconic “cult” movies (in the definitive sense of the phrase) is 1973’s slow-burn horror masterpiece, The Wicker Man, which was later remade into an infamously reviled thriller with Nicolas Cage in 2006. Deadline reported in October 2022 that another reimagining in the form of a TV series is in the works from Andy Serkis’ own production company, Urban Myth Films.

There will be plenty be scared of when these TV shows hit the airwaves and our favorite streaming services. But, for now, all we have to fear is the wait. At least there are plenty of upcoming horror movies to keep us satisfyingly spooked for the time being.
